Mortimer “Mort” Paul

Mort joined Team Feniks in 2024 as a transplant from the Eastern Seaboard.  He is not as food-driven as others in the office, but he would certainly welcome a little snackeral of something if you happen to have something in mind.  He’s a jolly fellow in the field, loves a good dash to and fro, and back to, and then fro, and again to and fro to fro to fro too.

 

Mort oversees Mac’s squeaker stick activities.  He acts as a personal trainer when the two of them first enter the field for squeaker fetch, barking his motivation on proper form, speed, and enthusiasm.  Once he’s happy with Mac’s performance, he breaks off to make the rounds and see that everyone else has their sticks in order.  Then he patrols the periphery and runs back along the path and forward along the path and back and forward and back and again into the field and “hey sniff sniff what’s that?”

Mort was born for excitement and is the first to jump into the fray of the chase.  Even a subtle movement out of the corner of his eye might warrant a bark-and-get response.  For a long time he couldn’t ride in the back seat of a car as every passing car was a potential chase, and God save poor Gus’s hearing if a cyclist or pedestrian happened by.  One day on an outing, he leaped out the rear window of the car as it drove past another car (it may have held a sinister aspect, as it was black and growled as it passed).  He tumbled, got a bloody nose, a chipped tooth, and suffered a few nicks and bruises, but he’s alright for it (and a little more shy around cars, though don’t get him started).  He is also known by the authorities to be one of the gimmie-gimmie-yip-yappers at the trailhead, so enthusiastic is he about potential herding opportunities.
