Josh Watson
Staff Accountant

Josh joined Team Feniks in 2018 after a tax accounting professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) encouraged him to pursue accounting as his major. He earned his bachelor’s magna cum laude in accounting with a minor in finance. He broke state high school records in powerlifting, experiences which have helped him carry in stride more than seven years of Feniks & Company tax season loads.

Josh likes tax work best because he takes to heart the concept of Accounting as a Healing Art in his care for small businesses. He enjoys the camaraderie of Team Feniks, genuine friendship in the context of office professionalism.

Mac is Josh’s owner. Mac was a village rescue puppy from Golden Retriever Rescue of Fairbanks, an organization focused on helping dogs find homes. Josh was so impressed with the mission and demonstrated service of Golden Retriever Rescue, he agreed to serve on its board of directors and continues to help their mission.
Josh’s interests outside the office include online gaming, crime dramas and comedy shows, criminal justice, and the Alaskan outdoors. He is not a vegetarian, and generally avoids vegetables. You will never see him request a plate of steamed broccoli, chard, or brussels sprouts, nor a nice green salad.

His favorite books in the Feniks 15 include I’m Proud of You by Tim Madigan on Mr. Rogers, and Quiet by Susan Cain. “Mr. Rogers was such and amazing man and a light in our world, a world that seems to keep getting darker. He inspires me to be the change I wish to see in the world. He also reminds me to see everyone as their own individual person and treat them with respect.”
Accounting involves reducing stress for clients and working hard to help them realize the best outcomes for their situations.
Accounting acts as the keystone of a successful business through helping clients make informed decisions based on financials and emotions.
I like the quote, ‘Be the change you wish to see in the world,’ attributed to Gandhi."
